Breastfeeding is the gold standard of infant feeding due to multiple health benefits to mother and baby. This method of feeding is endorsed by many professional groups including The World Health Organization, the American Academy of Pediatrics, the USDA, and many others. South Carolina has encouraged breastfeeding and acknowledged it as a public right. The South Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition and the South Carolina Breastfeeding Action Committee are partnering to introduce legislation to support breastfeeding in the workplace in the next legislative session. We need your help. Worksite Breastfeeding Legislation to be Proposed To continue improving the health of South Carolinians, the SC Breastfeeding Coalition will propose legislation in the coming session that will protect the rights of breastfeeding women in the workplace. The Govenor of Indiana has signed Indiana SB 219: Lactation Support in the Workplace into law! The provisions went into effect July 1, 2008. It passed in the Senate 47:1 and in the House 90:3. Go here to read the Bill. |

The new SC Breastfeeding Law protects the right of women to breastfeed in public without harrassment or fear of charges of indecent exposure.
