• Room change for Coalition meetings April 25, 2012
  The SC Breastfeeding Coalition Quarterly meeting and Steering Committee meeting will be in a different room this week. The room is in the main Palmetto Richland Hospital. Take elevator to the 4th floor and follow the signs for the L&D Classroom.
• Funding available for SC birthing institutions working towards BFHI
  SC Eat Smart, Move More Coalition (ESMMSC) has provided funding to the South Carolina Breastfeeding Coalition to support South Carolina birthing institutions in the process of becoming baby-friendly hospitals.
• New Online Resource for Employees
  The Office of Women’s Health is creating an online searchable resource to creatively support nursing employees.

• Greer Memorial Hospital Recognized as a 2011 Mother-Friendly Employer
  The Coalition and Eat Smart, Move More SC recently recognized Greer Memorial Hospital at the Coalition’s annual award recognition ceremony in Columbia.
• SC WIC Receives Breastfeeding Performance Bonus Award
  This month, the USDA announced the South Carolina WIC Program would receive a $412,386 2011 WIC Breastfeeding Performance Bonus Award in the category of Greatest Improvement in Breastfeeding Rates.

  Three out of four new mothers in the United States start out breastfeeding, according to the national Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but by the end of six months, only 43 percent of infants are still breastfed.
• IRS Decision a Victory for Nursing Mothers Everywhere
  The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced they will reverse a ruling that denies equipment used to help women breast feed from being covered as a health care expense.

  Surgeon General Regina M. Benjamin released The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Support Breastfeeding in the Jack Morton Auditorium at The George Washington University.

  The Coalition and Eat Smart, Move More SC recently recognized these 100 workplaces at the Coalition’s annual award recognition ceremony in Columbia.
